Dr. Kathy Ong
Dr. Kathy Ong graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. She attended UC Berkeley, California for her undergraduate studies, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a minor in Forestry.
She is a second generation optometrist, following her father, the late professor Dr. Jin Ong, who taught at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. In his later years, he had a practice in downtown San Francisco where he had a broad patient base, including many Bay Area immigrants, as he was multilingual. Dr. Kathy Ong had grown up around her father’s practice, spending many Saturdays throughout her younger years in the office.
She was inspired to pursue optometry as a career option by seeing her father in action. After graduating from optometry school, Dr. Kathy Ong spent some time working in Texas, and then moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and kayaking.
